Premium wine in Spain: on the road to excellence

Synopsis During the 19th century, and a good part of the 20th century, premium wines in Spain were few and far between and were very much driven by foreign investment and demand from the English and French markets.

Nowadays, Spanish high-end wine has grown and is present both in the domestic and foreign markets, and most of the projects are national.

Its structure is heterogeneous, with both classic and modern wineries. Although many of them offer top-of-the-range wines as a business card or to cover all market segments, the most emblematic are those specialising in this type of wine.

Territorially, they are spread over numerous production areas, but there is a higher density in the denominations of origin of Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat.

Premium wine is a unique combination of tangible and intangible assets of high value. In addition to the strength of round, elegant wines, excellent communication must convey the magic of glamour, the illusion of exclusivity and the creative spirit of art.

Spain is on the way, and we hope that this book will be a source of inspiration to accelerate this process.
